From one of Hamburg’s most famous chefs, Tim Mälzer, comes Bullerei Restaurant. Tim was trained in London kitchens (the Ritz Hotel was one of them), he has cooked side by side with Jamie Oliver, competed and starred in various German cooking shows and is now the author of 12 cookbooks. So Bullerei, in terms of the gastronomic experience, really delivers. But its the accessibility of the dishes, the down-to-earth way in which they are prepared and the overall open-minded atmosphere of the restaurant that makes Bullerei a real gem to visit. What Tim has done is lower the pretentiousness of many star-chefs by having a huge industrial space fitting of the hip area it finds itself in, Sternschanze, refining German cuisine but still honouring and respecting it. The meat dishes for example, which come in a shopping cart pushed by one of the apron-wearing waiters, come with a side of burnt corn on the cob and a piece of fresh iceberg salad. Nothing more, nothing less.
