Not far from the city center, in the quiet yet cosy Großneumarkt area, is Trattoria da Enzo, also referred to as the most authentic Italian in Hamburg. And this is no exaggeration. Outside the romantic restaurant you will find the menu with staple dishes divided into starters, salads, pasta, fish and meat however once inside you will only be given the wine menu. “Not to worry”, our contagiously warmhearted Italian waiter says, “just tell me if you want pasta, fish or meat, and we do the rest”. He recommends their Pasta al Tartuffo (truffles) and it does not disappoint. The handmade pasta, so moist and full of flavour, is a sensational hit, and one of the best pasta dishes I have eaten (sidenote- I did live in Milan for 5 years).
With every table already prepared with a checkered cloth, delicious olives and homemade bread, the experience already begins as you sit down. Every wall is decorated with pictures from famous people who have come to the restaurant, as well as pictures of where the Trattoria da Enzo family is from: Gaeta, in southern Italy, making the diners feel like they are having an authentic family dinner at Enzo’s.
